Banova Villa Beach Bar on Rab belongs firmly in the second group. Set beside the small Sveti Ivan Beach, close to the historic centre of Rab Town, it is tucked beneath the pine trees and blends almost seamlessly into the natural landscape. Wooden tables, casual furniture, light fabrics moving in the sea breeze and the water just a few steps away create an atmosphere that makes it easy to lose track of time.
One of Europe’s Best Beach Bars Is Right Here on Rab
What local guests and Rab residents have known for years has now received international recognition. In May 2026, British newspaper The Guardian included Banova Villa among Europe’s 27 best beach bars and cafés.
What makes this even more special is that this small bar on Rab was the only Croatian venue featured in a selection that includes some of the most beautiful coastal locations in Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Portugal. I am not surprised.

The perfect place for a break after exploring Rab’s streets
After exploring Rab’s stone-paved streets, medieval palaces and four distinctive bell towers, I can unwind here without leaving the historic centre behind. I can go for a swim, spend a few hours in the shade of the pine trees or wait for evening by the sea, with the unique silhouette of Rab Old Town rising in the background. Everything feels simple, close and wonderfully unhurried.
Beautiful views and spontaneity come first
Banova Villa is not a typical luxury beach club with polished surfaces and carefully designed rules. Its greatest quality is its character. Everything feels spontaneous, natural and slightly bohemian, as though the bar has always belonged among the rocks, sea and pine trees.
Here, I do not find luxury in glamour, but in simple pleasures: shade on a hot summer’s day, the sound of the waves, a cold drink after a swim and views of Rab’s distinctive skyline.

A relaxed atmosphere and playful details
The design blends naturally with the pine trees, rocks and seaside promenade. The decorative details feel playful, the furniture is deliberately imperfect, and the entire space has a personality that cannot simply be copied. That is why I do not come here only for the food or drinks. I come for the atmosphere.
From a Morning Swim to an Evening Cocktail
Guests come to Banova Villa without a plan. They begin the day with coffee by the sea while the beach and promenade are still quiet, then return to the shade after a swim for a light bite or a refreshing drink.
The relaxed atmosphere suits everyone – families, local guests and travellers who have just finished exploring the Old Town.
Sunset overlooking historic Rab
For me, Banova Villa truly comes into its own in the early evening. The sun begins to set, the light softens, and the stone houses, town walls and bell towers of Rab take on golden tones. The sea grows calmer and the entire setting is filled with that special Mediterranean atmosphere.
The sunset overlooking Rab’s Renaissance architecture was also highlighted in The Guardian’s selection. Its recommendation for the occasion is simple: settle in with an Aperol Spritz and enjoy the view.

How to include Banova Villa in a day on Rab
My ideal day begins with a walk through Rab’s historic centre. I wander along the stone-paved streets, stop beside the famous bell towers and make my way up towards Komrčar Park. After sightseeing, I head down to the waterfront and spend the rest of the afternoon at Banova Villa.
A swim, a cold drink and a sunset – it is a simple plan, but days like these are often the ones I remember for the longest.
Banova Villa is especially convenient for guests staying at Imperial Heritage Hotel, Valamar Collection, as the beach is only around 500 metres from the hotel. A morning walk, a swim or an evening cocktail can therefore easily become part of every day of a holiday on Rab.
A Place I Want to Return To
Banova Villa may now officially be part of Europe’s map of the best beach bars, but its greatest appeal for me is that it still feels like a local place discovered entirely by chance.
As the sun slowly disappears beyond the coast of Rab, I understand why people keep coming back. Not only for the views, cocktails or beach, but for the feeling of ease that stays with me long after I leave.
