When I first heard about Kamenjak on the island of Rab, everyone kept telling me: “You have to see it” or “It’s a view that takes your breath away.” And they were right. Besides, when you know that near the top there is also a restaurant that is much more than just a place for dinner, you will not think twice. It is a small trip, an adventurous experience, and soon you will see why.

The Road to Kamenjak

Kamenjak, the highest part of Rab’s ridge and one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the island, is not somewhere you simply stumble upon. It is a place you plan to visit. Luckily, I had a local with me, someone who knows the hidden corners and secrets of Rab very well, so I set off towards this stunning viewpoint with complete confidence.

Even the road towards the top has its own charm. As we moved away from Arba Resort and the sea, Rab slowly began to change. The Mediterranean atmosphere of Rab, known for its promenades, beaches and cafés, gradually gave way to rocky terrain, pine trees, low vegetation and that dry island landscape that smells of sunshine, salt and summer.

The road climbs higher and higher above the town, and with every bend the view becomes wider. At one point, the sea begins to appear between the greenery, then the bays open up, followed by the outline of Rab’s old town and, finally, Mount Velebit in the distance. Even then, I knew the journey to the top would be worth it. And it was.

A View Worth the Climb

It is difficult to describe it without sounding exaggerated, but the view from Kamenjak on Rab truly looks like a postcard unfolding beneath you. The old town of Rab stretches along the sea with its recognisable bell towers, peninsulas reach into the blue, boats look tiny and peaceful, and Mount Velebit rises in the distance like a dramatic backdrop to the entire scene.

The most beautiful moment came just before sunset. The light became softer, the sea turned silver, Rab Town was covered in warm tones, and Mount Velebit in the distance looked almost unreal.

A Hidden World on the Way to the Top

When I arrived at Restaurant Kamenjak, located on the road towards the peak of the same name, I immediately felt that this place was different. The details took centre stage and reminded me that authentic places on the Adriatic still exist, even when the road to reach them is a little steeper and a little more winding.

An interior with soul

The interior of Restaurant Kamenjak is lovely, warm and authentic, with that island charm that does not try to be anything it is not. Everything feels simple, homely and inviting, exactly as a restaurant in a location like this should feel.

Stone, wood, rustic details and a terrace that naturally takes the leading role create an atmosphere where the pace immediately slows down.

Local flavours with a view

At Restaurant Kamenjak, the focus is on local flavours, meat dishes and traditional cuisine. It was exactly what I wanted in a place like this. No rush, no unnecessary complication – just good food, a beautiful plate and a glass of wine.

As I ate, I kept looking towards the horizon. That may be the greatest charm of this restaurant: no matter how good the food is, the view is always the third guest at the table.

A viewpoint made for the camera

Kamenjak is naturally one of the most beautiful places to photograph on Rab. From every angle, a new composition appears: the old town below, blue sea channels between the peninsulas, boats in the distance and pale mountains across the water.

But the best thing you can do here is not only take photographs. It is to enjoy the moment: to relax and start dreaming about your next visit to this still-undiscovered island.

Why You Should Book Restaurant Kamenjak on Rab in Advance

If you are planning to visit Restaurant Kamenjak, my most important piece of advice is simple: book in advance. Sunset at Kamenjak is one of the most beautiful moments you can experience on Rab, and it surely belongs among the most beautiful sunsets on the Adriatic, so it is no surprise that many people want that exact time slot.

It is best to arrive a little earlier, before the sun starts to set. That way, you have enough time to settle in, order, photograph the view and simply enjoy it all without rushing.

My Recommendation

If you are visiting Rab and want to experience the island above the beaches, above the promenades and above the everyday summer buzz, Kamenjak is a place worth adding to your itinerary.

If you enjoy an active holiday, you can also hike to the top of Kamenjak, but in summer you should definitely bring water, wear comfortable shoes and avoid the strongest sun. We chose the easier option because we wanted to catch the most beautiful part of the day — the time just before sunset.
