From classic creamy flavours to modern combinations and ice creams that catch your attention at first glance, choosing where to stop is far from easy.
Where Can You Find the Best Ice Cream in Dubrovnik?
Cobblestone streets, views of Dubrovnik’s distinctive red rooftops, sunshine and warm summer temperatures – it is hard to imagine exploring Dubrovnik without stopping for at least one ice cream. Or, in our case, five.
That is why we decided to find out which ice cream parlours in Dubrovnik are genuinely worth visiting.
During one very sweet tour of the city, we visited five popular spots: Gianni, Peppino’s Gelato, Dolce Vita, Mostro Gelato and Moritz Eis. We rated each ice cream in three categories – creaminess, flavour and presentation wow factor – using scores from 1 to 5.
The result? There were several perfect scores, one flavour even earned our unofficial rating of 5+, and our search for the best ice cream in Dubrovnik turned out to be an excellent way to explore the Old Town.
How Did We Rate the Ice Cream in Dubrovnik?
Before you follow our sweet trail through Dubrovnik, we should explain the rules of our little taste test. Rather than analysing just one element, we considered each ice cream as a complete experience.
Creaminess was the first category. We were looking for a smooth, rich texture without any unpleasant ice crystals.
When it came to flavour, we considered how distinctive, balanced and memorable it was. In other words, was it simply delicious in the moment, or was it the kind of flavour that would make you return to the same address the following day?
The third category was the wow factor and presentation. Here, we rated the first impression, the appearance of the ice cream, the way it was served and the overall visual experience.
Naturally, the ratings reflect our personal impressions. The best way to find your own favourite is to follow the same route and carry out the test yourself.
Gianni – Artisan Ice Cream Hidden in Dubrovnik’s Old Town
Our ratings: Creaminess 5/5 | Flavour 5/5 | Wow factor 4/5
How It All Began
If you are looking for artisan ice cream in Dubrovnik, Gianni is one of the places worth adding to your list. It is located close to Dubrovnik’s Old Port, making it easy to include in a tour of the Old Town.
Gianni was founded by a pastry chef who previously worked at Dubrovnik’s Michelin-starred Restaurant 360 before turning his attention to producing his own ice creams and desserts. The focus is on high-quality ingredients and visually appealing presentation.

How We Rated the Ice Cream at Gianni
Gianni immediately earned top marks from us in the two most important categories.
We gave it a perfect five for creaminess and another five for flavour. The texture was smooth and rich, while the chosen flavour was clearly noticeable from the very first bite. When it came to the wow factor and presentation, Gianni received 4/5.
The main focus here is firmly on the ice cream itself – its texture and flavour – rather than on creating a visual spectacle.
How to Find Gianni Ice Cream Parlour
Gianni Dubrovnik is located on Ulica kneza Damjana Jude, close to the Old Port. If you are exploring Dubrovnik’s historic centre, we recommend visiting after seeing the Rector’s Palace and Dubrovnik’s Old Port.
Our final score was 14 out of a possible 15 points, placing Gianni near the top of our list of the best ice cream in Dubrovnik.
Peppino’s Gelato – A Huge Choice of Flavours in the Heart of Dubrovnik
Our ratings: Creaminess 4/5 | Flavour 4/5 | Wow factor 5/5
Peppino’s Gelato is one of the best-known names when it comes to ice cream in Dubrovnik. Its gelaterias are located within the Old Town, which means that Peppino’s can easily be included in almost any Dubrovnik sightseeing route.
A Huge Choice of Flavours at Peppino’s Gelato
Here, choosing a flavour becomes part of the entire experience. Alongside more traditional options, the selection includes plenty of creative combinations, and this variety is one of the reasons Peppino’s attracts so much attention from visitors.
Some of the standout flavours include Dubrovnik Crème Brûlée, Tiramiss-u and various combinations featuring nuts and caramelised ingredients.
The main focus here is firmly on the ice cream itself – its texture and flavour – rather than on creating a visual spectacle.

How We Rated the Ice Cream at Peppino’s Gelato
We awarded 4/5 for both creaminess and flavour. The ice cream was creamy and full of flavour, but the competition in these categories was exceptionally strong during our test.
Peppino’s earned its perfect score for the wow factor and presentation. The extensive selection, creative flavour names and the way the entire range is displayed make choosing part of the fun.
If you enjoy carefully examining every flavour, changing your mind several times and only then deciding which scoop to order, you will probably spend a little longer here.
How to Find Peppino’s Gelato in Dubrovnik
While walking along Stradun, turn towards Ulica od Puča, where you will find Peppino’s Gelato Factory at number 9. Its second location is at Sv. Dominika 1, close to Ploče Gate.
With a total score of 13 out of 15, Peppino’s Gelato is a particularly good choice for anyone looking for an interesting selection of flavours and an ice cream that creates a wow effect at first glance.
Dolce Vita – A Sweet Break Just Steps from Stradun
Our ratings: Creaminess 5/5 | Flavour 5/5 | Wow factor 3/5
Sometimes, the best places are hidden just a few steps from the city’s busiest streets. Dolce Vita has been part of Dubrovnik’s sweet scene since 2000. Alongside ice cream, it also serves excellent crêpes, ice cream sundaes and coffee. Dolce Vita stood out in two categories during our test. Creaminess: 5/5. Flavour: 5/5.

How We Rated the Ice Cream at Dolce Vita
If your main criterion when searching for the best ice cream in Dubrovnik is what happens after the first bite, Dolce Vita deserves a serious place on your list.
The texture was exactly what we look for in a good ice cream – creamy and smooth – while the flavour was distinctive enough to earn a perfect score.
We gave it 3/5 for the wow factor and presentation. Compared with some of the more modern and visually striking gelaterias along our route, Dolce Vita has a simpler appearance.
However, this raises an important question: does good ice cream really need to look spectacular if the flavour earns a perfect five? In this case, our answer is: not necessarily.
How to Find Dolce Vita in Dubrovnik
Dolce Vita Dubrovnik is located at Nalješkovićeva 1a, right in the heart of the Old Town. It is only a short walk from Stradun to this little sweet spot.
Dolce Vita ultimately scored 13 out of a possible 15 points, proving that simple presentation quickly becomes less important when the creaminess and flavour are this good.
Mostro Gelato – The Ice Cream with the Biggest Personality
Our ratings: Creaminess 4/5 | Flavour 3/5 | Wow factor 5/5
Mostro as Couture Gelato
Mostro Gelato is difficult to miss. Located directly on Stradun in the very centre of the Old Town, Mostro describes its concept as couture gelato, focusing on refined flavours, contemporary interior design and the overall experience. Its visual identity, presentation and modern approach are all an important part of the concept.
Mostro is one of those places where you will probably take out your phone and photograph the ice cream before you even taste it! If you are looking for photogenic ice cream in Dubrovnik or an eye-catching image to remember your trip by, this gelateria has a very distinctive visual signature.

How We Rated the Ice Cream at Mostro Gelato
We gave Mostro 4/5 for creaminess and 3/5 for flavour. In our personal test, flavour was the category in which some of the other contenders stood out more strongly.
That certainly does not mean that you should skip Mostro. On the contrary, if the combination of location, contemporary design and presentation matters to you, Mostro offers one of the most visually impressive gelato experiences along our route.
Where Is Mostro Gelato?
Mostro Gelato is located at Stradun 10, making it almost impossible to miss while walking along Dubrovnik’s main street.
With a total score of 12 out of 15, Mostro was our favourite in the visual impression category and is an excellent stop for anyone who expects both good flavour and a great photograph from their ice cream.
Moritz Eis – The Winner of Our Search for the Best Ice Cream in Dubrovnik
Our ratings: Creaminess 5/5 | Flavour 5+/5 | Wow factor 5/5
Moritz Eis – Our Final Stop
Moritz Eis is a new sweet spot in Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Its concept centres around artisan ice cream made from natural ingredients without artificial flavourings or preservatives.
Moritz Eis highlights its 100% natural approach, lower sugar content and selection of vegan and gluten-free options. The first bite immediately explained why Moritz did not receive an ordinary five for flavour in our ratings.

How We Rated the Ice Cream at Moritz Eis
Yes, we know that our rating scale only goes up to five. Moritz Eis received 5+ for flavour because we simply decided to break our own rules.
The flavour was distinctive, fresh and memorable enough for us to name it the best in our test. We particularly liked the focus on natural ingredients and creative combinations.
The Moritz Eis selection includes fruity options such as strawberry, blood orange and raspberry, as well as combinations including orange and ginger or lemon and mint.
The wow factor here is not the result of excessive presentation, but rather the overall impression – from the interior and concept to the colours, texture and ice cream itself.
How to Find Moritz Eis in Dubrovnik
From Stradun, turn into Široka Street, where you will find Moritz Eis at number 4. The location is right in the heart of the Old Town, making it easy to include in your Dubrovnik sightseeing route.
Moritz Eis also has a second location at Šetnica Nika i Meda Pucića 1, which is a convenient option if you are staying in the Babin Kuk area or at one of Valamar’s hotels.
Having achieved perfect scores in all our categories – as well as one score that went beyond the official scale – Moritz Eis is the winner of our search for the best ice cream in Dubrovnik.
Our Final Ranking of the Best Ice Cream in Dubrovnik
After five ice cream parlours and, admittedly, more than enough ice cream for one day, we arrived at our final results.
| Ice cream parlour | Creaminess | Flavour | Wow factor |
| Gianni | 5/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
| Peppino’s Gelato | 4/5 | 4/5 | 5/5 |
| Dolce Vita | 5/5 | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Mostro Gelato | 4/5 | 3/5 | 5/5 |
| Moritz Eis | 5/5 | 5+/5 | 5/5 |
Based on our ratings, Moritz Eis takes first place, followed closely by Gianni with its almost perfect result. Dolce Vita particularly impressed us with its flavour and creaminess, Peppino’s won us over with its selection and wow factor, while Mostro was the most visually striking stop on our sweet route.
Ultimately, however, the best ice cream in Dubrovnik depends on what you are looking for.
For exceptionally creamy ice cream and rich flavours, head to Gianni or Dolce Vita. If you enjoy a large selection and creative flavours, stop at Peppino’s. For a contemporary and photogenic gelato experience, choose Mostro. And if you ask us where we would return for one more serving, our answer is Moritz Eis.
