Poreč may be known for its beaches, historic old town and UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica, but there is another reason to add it to your travel calendar: its events.

Throughout the year, the town becomes a stage for concerts, food festivals, sporting challenges and family entertainment. Summer evenings bring music to historic squares and open-air venues, September is all about tuna and the Adriatic, while autumn welcomes thousands of cyclists to the roads of Istria.

Whether you are travelling for music, food, sport or simply a great atmosphere, these are some of the best events in Poreč to look out for.

Cultural and Music Events in Poreč

Poreč has a wonderful habit of turning historic settings into unexpected stages.

Classical concerts take place inside a sixth-century basilica, jazz fills hidden courtyards and summer evenings bring music, theatre and outdoor cinema to squares across the town.

The Concerts in Euphrasiana festival has been part of Poreč’s cultural calendar since 1962, making it one of Croatia’s longest-running classical music festivals. Performances traditionally take place on summer Fridays inside the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica.

The remarkable acoustics, golden mosaics and centuries of history turn even a simple evening concert into something memorable.

You do not necessarily need to be a devoted classical music fan either. Sitting inside one of Poreč’s most important landmarks while music fills the basilica is an experience in itself.

Lanterna Summer Nights

A little north of Poreč, Lanterna Summer Nights keeps the entertainment going throughout the summer season at Valamar Camping Lanterna in Tar.

The festival combines live music, outdoor cinema, children’s theatre, dance performances and shows for the whole family. Piazza Square and Lanterna Theatre are the main venues, while special events introduce visitors to local traditions in Tar and Vabriga.

It works particularly well for families because the programme changes throughout the week.

One evening can mean a film under the stars; the next, live music or a show that keeps both children and adults entertained.

Sun, music, and endless fun – welcome to Poreč Summer

From June until the end of September, Poreč practically becomes one large open-air venue.

Poreč Summer 2026 runs from 21 June to 30 September, bringing together concerts, festivals, exhibitions and outdoor experiences across the town.

Expect live music in historic squares, jazz evenings, cultural performances and events that make the most of warm Mediterranean nights.

One evening might lead you to Music on the Square, another to Jazz in Lapidarium or a cultural walk through the old town.

The best strategy is often simply to head into town after dinner and see what is happening.

Valamar Funtana Summerfest

Just south of Poreč, Funtana has its own summer rhythm.

Valamar Funtana Summerfest runs throughout the summer season at Valamar Camping Istra, with a programme of open-air cinema, live concerts, dance performances, children’s theatre and entertainment.

Special events also take the experience beyond the campsite, with local traditions and fishermen’s festivals adding a distinctly Istrian flavour.

It is relaxed, family-friendly and exactly the kind of evening where you intend to stay for one performance and somehow end up staying much longer.

Advent in Poreč

Experience a winter wonderland in Poreč

Poreč is not only a summer destination.

When December arrives, the old town swaps beach towels and summer concerts for festive lights, Christmas markets, music and the scent of seasonal treats.

Advent Poreč traditionally brings concerts, children’s entertainment, workshops and festive food to the centre of town, proving that the Adriatic has plenty of atmosphere even when nobody is thinking about swimming.

Grab a cup of mulled wine, wander beneath the lights and discover a very different side of Poreč.

Food and Wine Events in Poreč

Istria takes food seriously, so it is hardly surprising that some of Poreč’s most popular events revolve around what is on the plate – and in the glass.

From casual street food to ambitious gourmet creations, these events are a delicious introduction to the region.

MangiaTorre

A short drive from Poreč, Tar brings together food, music and warm summer evenings at MangiaTorre.

The street-food festival celebrates Istrian, Mediterranean and coastal flavours in a relaxed outdoor setting, accompanied by live entertainment.

Come hungry.

This is the kind of event where the plan to try one dish rarely survives first contact with the food stalls.

Tunalicious Festival

If there is one September event food lovers should know about, it is Tunalicious.

From 7 to 13 September 2026, Poreč once again becomes the centre of a week combining tuna, gastronomy, big-game fishing and live music.

Four main experiences shape the festival: Tuna Restaurant Week, Spinnaker Gourmet Stage, Tunalicious Street Food and TunIstra – Big Game Fishing. The result is a mix of sophisticated tasting experiences, street food, sporting excitement and concerts along the waterfront.

During TunIstra, fishing teams head out into the Adriatic before returning for the excitement of the daily action on shore.

Meanwhile, visitors have the much easier job of deciding what to eat next.

Sports Events in Poreč

Poreč’s coastline and the surrounding Istrian countryside provide a natural setting for outdoor sport.

Swimming, tennis and cycling are all part of the annual events calendar, attracting everyone from recreational enthusiasts to serious competitors.

Tennis has a long tradition in Istria, and Istarska Rivijera is one of the region’s established spring sporting events.

The international tournament has brought generations of talented players to Istrian clay courts, making it a good reason for tennis fans to visit Poreč outside the traditional summer season.

Spring temperatures also make this a particularly lovely time to combine sport with exploring the surrounding coast and countryside.

Poreč Dolphin

You do not have to be a professional athlete to take part in one of Poreč’s most enjoyable sporting traditions.

The Poreč Dolphin, taking place on 29 and 30 August 2026 at Valamar Parentino beach, is designed as a recreational water-sports festival for different ages and abilities.

Its famous swimming marathon offers routes of 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 metres, plus a shorter 500-metre option for younger or less experienced swimmers. Participants can even use fins, masks, swimming boards and other aids.

The programme has grown beyond swimming too, with a SUP regatta, water polo, aquathlon, demonstrations and workshops.

The emphasis is less on beating everyone else and more on enjoying sport in the Adriatic.

Which seems like a very good reason to get into the water.

Istria300

All participants begin and finish in Poreč, but riders can decide during the event whether to complete 155, 235 or the full 300 kilometres.

The routes lead through some of Istria’s most spectacular landscapes, combining rolling countryside, vineyards, hilltop towns and coastal scenery.

Even if you are not riding, the event brings plenty of sporting energy to Poreč.

And if you are taking on all 300 kilometres, you have definitely earned an extra plate of Istrian pasta afterwards.

Why Poreč should be on your event calendar

What makes Poreč’s event scene so appealing is its variety.

You can listen to classical music inside a UNESCO-listed basilica, watch a film beneath the stars, spend an evening tasting tuna on the waterfront or swim through the Adriatic with hundreds of other participants.

Come in summer for music and outdoor entertainment, stay into September for food and water sports or return in autumn for one of Istria’s biggest cycling events.

Poreč may already have the sea, history and Mediterranean charm.

The events simply give you another reason to come.
